Cornea

It is the clear transperant covering of the eye. It is a very sensitive structure and does not have blood vessels. In infection it gets ulcers which is very serious because any scarring will impair vision.

Lens

Also called the crystalline lens helps to focus images on to the retina. In age , disease or trauma it  becomes opaque and forms a cataract.

Iris

Ciliary Body

This is a continuation of the middle layer of the eye ball. It has muscles which relax or contract to change the curvature of the lens whose ligaments are attached to it.

Aquous humor

This is the fluid which is present in front of the lens. It is responsible for maintaining the correct pressure of the eye ball.

Retina

This is the light sensitive inner layer of the eye. This is responsible for capturing focussed images for transmission to brain. It can be involoved in disease, injury or trauma.Any scarring  will impair vision. The perpeheral retina is responsible for night vision and perepheral vision. The central retina called the macula is responsible for central and reading vision.

Vitreous Humor
