Children with glasses

A child prescribed glasses to correct her squint

Some children are born with high power of the eyes. These often go undetected unless they are detected in school screening or when they are brought up for some other eye ailments. Some tend to squint or other children who need glasses often go close to the book while reading or while watching the tv. Some blink more frequently. During eye examination power for glasses if any can be found out after instilling eye drops which temporarily paralyze the pupil and allow the glass power to be estimated. When one eye has significantly more power than the other eye, a "patching" of one eye may be advised. This is to treat lazy eyes from developing. The aim of treatment is to stimulate both the eyes to attain full vision by 8-9 years of age.
