How to keep the eyes healthy

Carrots and other fruits and vegetables with yellow colour are healthy for eyes

For children it is important to have adequate vitamin A in diet for the proper development and maintenance of the eye. Vitamin A is available in abundance in green leafy vegetables, milk and in any fruits or vegetables with yellow color such as carrots, papya, pumkin and mango. For all ages trauma is a big risk to the eye. It is very important to protect eyes from injury. Medical attention must be taken even after relatively trivial eye injury. Children need a routine eye checkup just before they go to the school. This detects hidden glass power which can be managed to avoid lazy eyes. Uncontrolled diabetes is a big risk for loss of vision. A diabetic person must pay attention to strict control of blood sugar. A periodical eye check up for diabetics is a must even they have no visual symptoms. Those wearing high minus power glasses need to have retinal examination once in a while to look for any holes or tears in peripheral retina. Those with a family history of glaucoma need to have screening for glaucoma.
