Graduated from Calcutta  Medical College in 1986. After housestaffship at the SSKM Hospital , and at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology ,Kolkata went on to AMU Institute of Ophthalmology at Aligarh,  completing first the diploma and then the master of surgery in ophthalmology in 1990.Qualified for the  Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Ophthalmology in 1989.

From 1990 to 1993 worked as an Ophthalmic Surgeon at Rotary Sunderlal Eye Hospital, Chandausi, Dist Moradabad UP which is a trust hospital involved in community service in ophthalmology, then  funded by the Rotary international and Operation Eyesight Universal of Calgary Canada.

Since 1993 is in private practice in ophthalmology as a partner of Athena Eye Care , Kolkata .

Won the public  service award of Rotary Club of Chandausi , Dist Moradabad UP in in 1991.

Was a Rotary Group Study Exchange member to USA  in 1991. 

Served as the joint secretary and treasurer of the Ophthalmological Society of West Bengal, 

Editor of the Bengal Ophthalmic Journal for two terms.

Was an executive committee member east zone of the Strabismological Society of India.

Was the organising secretary of the annual conference of the All India Strabismological Society held at Kolkata.

Served as the Hony Secretary of the Ophthalmological Society of West Bengal in the years 2006-2008

Presently also a PhD scholar in the Faculty of Law of the Calcutta University researching on the efficacy and effectivity of the regulatory framework of the Medical Councils in India
